Our Approach

At GSS Healthcare LLC, we take a customized approach to housing development. We understand that every American family is unique, with different levels of income and financial constraints.  Container homes will replace manufactured homes with safety features to withstand winds at a higher rate.  Tiny homes will increase home ownership as they are more affordable. 

Services

The U.S. Housing Crisis

 The U.S. has a shortage of 7.3 million rental homes affordable and available to renters with extremely low incomes that is, incomes at or below either the federal poverty guideline or 30% of their area median income, whichever is greater. Only 33 affordable and available rental homes exist for every 100 extremely low-income renter households. Extremely low-income renters face a shortage in every state and major metropolitan area.    Among states, the supply of affordable and available rental homes ranges from 17 affordable and available homes for every 100 extremely low-income renter households in Nevada to 58 in South Dakota. In 12 of the 50 largest metropolitan areas in the country, the absolute shortage of affordable and available homes for extremely low-income renters exceeds 100,000 units. 

Low Barrier Housing

 

The Crisis

Many experiencing homelessness face barriers when trying to access permanent housing. Common barriers include previous evictions, low income, and criminal history. These barriers restrict the already small pool of available affordable rental options and limit the usability of housing subsidies.


 

The Solution

Property owners can help lower these existing barriers through modified tenant screening criteria and significantly increase the stock of available options for people coming out of homelessness. As part of The Collective, landlord members gain access to various benefits designed to support tenants and mitigate risk.


Housing First

 Housing First is a proven model for addressing homelessness that prioritizes access to permanent, stable housing, linked with voluntary services as needed. Housing First recognizes that stable housing is a prerequisite for effective psychiatric and substance abuse treatment and for improving quality of life. Once stably housed, individuals are better able to take advantage of wrap-around services – to help support housing stability, employment, and recovery. Without stable housing, attaining these goals becomes much more difficult. 



  • Housing First rapidly ends homelessness. Participants in Housing First rapidly obtained housing and retained their housing at a much higher rate than the treatment as usual group. After two years, 62% of the Housing First participants were housed the whole time compared to 31% of those who were required to participate in treatment prior to the receipt of housing. 
  • Housing First is a good investment. The economic analysis found some cost savings and cost offsets. Every $10 invested in Housing First services resulted in an average savings of $9.60 for high-needs participants and $3.42 for moderate needs participants. Significant cost savings were realized for the 10 percent of participants who had the highest costs at study entry; for these individuals, every $10 invested in Housing First services resulted in an average savings of $21.72. 
  • Housing First can improve quality of life and other outcomes. Having a place to live and the right supports can lead to other positive outcomes beyond those provided by existing services. Housing stability, quality of life, and community functioning outcomes were all more positive for participants in Housing First programs.
